Rooted in King’s Cross, Renewed for the Future

For more than two centuries, King’s Cross Methodist Church has been a living symbol of faith, welcome, and transformation in the very heart of London. Our story is not just about longevity — it’s about impact, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to serve the city around us.

Decades ago, as London’s face changed, we pioneered Cantonese and Mandarin services, welcoming migrants from Asia and building a truly international church family. This pioneering work laid the foundation for what has now become the Chinese Methodist Church movement across the UK, which has grown to over ten congregations — and continues to expand.

Our mission extends far beyond Sunday worship. We have stood alongside those on the margins, offered shelter to the homeless, and created a community for the lonely and isolated. Our support has reached the most vulnerable, including collaborative efforts to assist street workers in King’s Cross, long-term partnerships with addiction recovery and rehabilitation services, ongoing work with organisations addressing gambling issues, and community-building initiatives such as a choir that brings hope and care to many. Every chapter of our history is marked by adaptation, outreach, and love for our neighbours.

Now, King’s Cross itself is calling us to a new chapter. This dynamic and diverse neighbourhood — just opposite one of Europe’s busiest and best-connected transport hubs — needs a church that is open, accessible, and ready to meet the challenges of today.

However, the aging condition of our current church building has become a barrier to our development. The outdated structure not only incurs high maintenance costs and poses accessibility challenges, but also fails to support our expanding ministries and makes it difficult to fully leverage our prime location. For these reasons, and with planning permission already secured, we are moving forward with a transformative redevelopment plan: to build a modern, sustainable, and fully accessible new church, so that every member of the community can participate with ease as we move forward together into the future.

Seizing this rare, once-in-a-generation opportunity, we are creating a visionary, welcoming, and community-driven church at one of the most visible crossroads in the UK. Our vision is for the new building to become much more than a physical structure: it will stand as a beacon of hope, welcome, and inspiration, serving the community and modelling for other churches.

The new King’s Cross Methodist Church will provide:

  • Step-free access and an inclusive, barrier-free environment that ensures every person — regardless of age, ability, or background — feels truly welcome and able to participate fully.

  • Innovative energy-saving systems showcase our steadfast commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

  • Flexible, uplifting spaces designed for worship, community gatherings, and student activities, ready to adapt to the evolving needs of a dynamic city.

  • Purpose-built student accommodation at the heart of London, offering young people a supportive place to live, grow, and connect.

  • A vibrant, street-facing café opening onto the lively Belgrove House development, serving as a daily meeting point for workers, visitors, and neighbours — a new gateway to community life.

  • A centre for transformative partnerships and outreach — from addiction recovery to creative arts, from social support to spiritual growth — where lives are renewed and new possibilities are born.

We invite you to join us in three vital ways:
